Last night I had dinner with a friend (Mexican food and margaritas). Among our many topics of conversation and weekend plans, we discussed bars (long story!). Although we didn't really come to many conclusions, we did decide it's difficult for people our age to go out in the twin cities because the "local bar" is somewhat missing. I don't have a "Cheers" in my neighborhood (the only thing I really don't have). It seems most bars are more for the twenty something type crowd. I mentioned I also feel somewhat uncomfortable going out because the chance of an encounter with a former student. The problem for me is I would prefer drinking at a bar to drinking at someone's house. Oh, what a dilemma! Tonight another friend and I are going to a former neighborhood bar (Cedar Falls, IA).
