Sooo.... I think I'm going to try to blog each day during this crazy time of pandemic. Today I'll try to set the seen.
Friday, March 13th. It's interesting that this is when school started to shut down for me. We dismissed students two hours early, so we could plan distance learning. My colleagues and I met for a last happy hour after school.
Saturday, March 14th. Life as usual for the most part. I was a bit irritated when I couldn't get the normal oatmeal I buy at the grocery store. No need to hoard here, after all, I can walk to the grocery store.
Sunday, March 15th. I went to the gym for spin class. The class was small yet lively. The instructor reminded us to check the app for changes.
Monday, March 16th. Teachers were to report for distance learning preparations. It was really confusing as correspondences kept changing and being in opposition with each other. Rumors started spreading that we could be closed down for eight weeks. (nothing firm yet). I took all my plants home and closed up my room. Everyone starts to wonder what happens if we don't go back.
A friend and I meet at the local bar for dinner and drinks knowing it's the last night for bars and restaurants to be open. Life is getting crazy.
Tuesday, March 17th. Teachers are no longer required to report to school. Stay home and make plans is stated. I go through various emails trying to figure out the latest plan. We have reached out to students. I asked, "What are you wondering about while you're at home?" Answers vary: my imaginary friends, why did this have to happen, what if I won't understand it at home, why is the thermostat say 98º when it's cold in here.... I guess this is what one should expect from a 12 year old.
Wednesday, March. 18th. I go in to help the district hand out hot breakfast and lunch to families. The paraprofessionals are required to show up to make their hourly wage.
I realize I'm not needed and go to Home Depot to buy a gas grill. Jim helps me, and I actually enjoy my trip to Home Depot.
Thursday, March 19th. I decide it's time to start recording my days. I'm really concerned about staying home. Honestly, I'll miss my fellow colleagues and students. Dread is enveloping my body as I realize that I"m really going to need to set a schedule, so I don't stay in my workout clothes all day.
We have a Google Meet at 10:00. I'm sure it's merely another hoop to jump through. I'm guessing we'll also get more information that contradicts what has already been said. These are crazy times my friends.
