I love going back home to Okoboji. It's a great time to hang with friends and visit local establishments. While I'm home, I feel like I'm on a mini-vacation.
Act One: Transportation
I typically bring my bike to Okoboji. I like to ride the hills while I'm home. The bike fits fine in the back of my Rav 4.
Recently, I received a call from the dry cleaner in Bojii. I take my sweaters to the local dry cleaner because I save about $50. The call asked if I had forgotten my dry cleaning which I had.
Anyway, I picked up my dry cleaning which was problematic since I was unable to transport all of my sweaters and my bike. The dry cleaning had to stay in Boji!
Act Two: Local Businesses
Each time I go home in the summer I make sure to visit the Taco House and the Sugar Shack. If I have time I also visit a local cafe and Lisa's Bake Shop. I save Godfather's Pizza for the winter when the Taco House is closed.
As I walked into the Sugar Shack, the lady behind the counter said, "You were here last time I worked. Are you still here?" I explained that I was visiting again and let her know I'd see her in August.
The Taco House opens at 10:00 in the morning, and today I arrived at 10:00. "Are you here for breakfast?" the girl asked. We went to school together. "Yep, I'm leaving town, and I hadn't had my Taco House soft shell, so I needed to stop."
Act Three: Great Friends
I met my friend JW last night at a "waterfront grill" at 6:00. We had dinner and drinks and talked about everything. At one point we were laughing about how we had crashed a different class reunion five years ago. We're two years apart and went to the classes reunion in the middle even though neither of us have attended our own reunion. "I bet they made a secret group on FB, so we couldn't attend. Do you think they had it without us?' I asked. Impulsively, I sent a text to a friend who's in the class asking if we were left off the list, and she replied saying she didn't have information about the reunion. JW and I talked a bit more and then decided it was time to go home. When I reached my car it was 11:00. I had no idea it was so late and that we had been talking and looking at the lake for five hours. As soon as I awoke this morning, I sent a text to our friend and apologized for sending a text so late at night. Then she sent a text back commenting on our age and asking when 11:00 became a late night.
