This weekend I am visiting friends in God's Country. My plan was to bike and visit friends, but the weather is not cooperating. Between my visits (lunch and dinner engagements), I am working on school work.
My first tasks revolved around the poetry slam that was held yesterday. As usual, I was impressed with each and every student. I invited guest judges into the classroom to watch. Each judge (all adults from the building) wrote down one line they like from each poem. This morning I stapled the lines to each student's rubric and wrote thank you notes to the judges. Rereading favorite lines and writing notes to the judges was worth the time. Everyone involved was wonderful.
This task was followed by judging writing for our school's first writing contest. I absolutely love the idea and am so pleased that the literature lead made it possible. She worked diligently to make it a success. It's a great tradition that I hope continues. As I judged the writing, I realized I let my students down by not talking to some individually since some the the writing was atrocious.
Since I have to use my phone for wifi at my dad's house, I am completing one of the last tasks at McDonalds (free, fairly fast, wifi). I am doctopussing (now a verb?!) out the final folder (media literacy) of the year to my students. Even though I still have some changes to make to the unit, the documents are fine to be sent. Mc Donalds, however, is not fine, but it is somewhat entertaining. As I sit checking blogs and writing mine while Doctopus does it's magic, I'm listening to a group of old folks enjoying their afternoon coffee. If I could earn a dollar for each time they discussed the weather (again), I could pay for adult beverages tonight after dinner. I ordered a McFlurry and an iced tea. I'm not sure, but I find the m&ms to be a bit questionable.
My last task is journals, but I think they may wait until tomorrow or perhaps next week during MAP testing. More testing...
After today's completion of tasks, I'll be ready for a fun night out.

You inspire me, MM!
I like the idea of selecting a favorite line.
