Heaven in a Wild Flower

356.  Auguries of Innocence
by   William Blake
TO see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
  And eternity in an hour.

I have a group of women whom I meet with once a month over a glass of wine.  It's called our Sabbath group, and I'm sure I've written about it before.  We chose to find Anne Lamott's interview with Oprah on Oprah's Super Soul Sunday for next time's discussion, but we couldn't find the entire version.  Instead we settled on Sue Monk Kidd since the video was still online.  To prepare myself, I listened and took notes of those thoughts that resonated with me.  All of these should be in quotes and tidied up for grammar (whatever), but here is a list that I took of what I listened to and believed:

Prayer is the intention of the heart

what is faith if not paying attention to what we belong to

This moment is enough.
This place is enough.
I am enough.

We become what we pay attention to...

God is consciousness beyond me.

Our soul is here to love and create.

What we pay attention to matters...

She also said that she heard Maya Angelou say the next set of lines.

something to say
the ability to say it
the courage to say it

I'm actually going to use this as my student's prepare their poetry slam poems since I believe poetry slam poems should be intense and a search into one's beliefs.

I thought some of the show was repetitive, but it had a good feel.  When it's cold and gloomy out and I'm in a bit of pain,  having a good feel is a good feel.

Today's Lenten suggestion was to confess a secret.  My secret isn't really a secret, but I didn't know the station number for OWN TV nor did I know it had anything worth watching.  Sue Monk Kidd has to be more interesting that Lindsey Lohan.  Tomorrow's suggestion is...
No sugar day – where else is there sweetness in your life?  I feel safe saying that this will NOT happen.
My gratitude list:
1) helpful advice
2) The Voice on TV tonight because I have no energy for anything else
3) great authors like William Blake, Maya Angelou, and Sue Monk Kidd

Someone just told me to read Kidd's new book. I love the quote about ENOUGH-ness. Resonates with me right now.

Sankalpa Day 5

Today I went back to the interweb to find out what I could post about that would relate to sankalpa .  "...Sankalpa has the potential to release tremendous power by clearly defining and focusing on a chosen goal."  My chosen goal since May has truly been on being physically active.  Since it's cold and miserable out, I've been being active inside instead of outside.  December 6th (or something like that) was the last time I ventured outside for physical activity.  I, however, have still been going to they gym and focusing on being physically fit (or at least burning enough calories to eat more food).  Yesterday I received an early morning text from a friend in God's Country .  President Obama was talking about "The President's Challenge" .  Today (I tried yesterday and decided to put it off until today... forget out it... let it happen... put it aside... clear my mind of it... all probably sankalpa) I formed a group.  The...

What if... The Delivery

Molly was excited to get a package from her friend who lives in Alaska.  When she opened the box, she was confused.  Although the shirt was actually soft and of good quality, she was upset by the guns in the flag.  When she googled Holster's, it was exactly what she thought... pro-gun.  She didn't know how to handle the situation, so she sent a picture stating she was confused. Her friend had obviously lost her mind.  During the conversation, she kept proclaiming that she hadn't sent a t-shirt.  When Molly explained it was her writing on the box, things became weird.  The friend was in a state of denial.  Molly even sent a text with a picture of the writing on the box. Molly's friend was adamant that she sent homemade condiments.  She wouldn't give up on her story even though it was clear Molly is in possession of an NRA type t-shirt.  After much deliberation, the two friends realized what had happened.  The original box, wit...

Missing You

Two Sundays ago I missed church because I was out of town. Last Sunday I missed church because I could not get to church due to the marathon (blocking my path... not my running). Dad and I tried to leave early, but we did not leave early enough. I joked with Dad about the fact that they would miss me at church. When I checked my e-mail this evening, I actually had an e-mail from my pastor saying I was missed. It was a short e-mail, but it was sweet and definitely a positive part of my day.
