Day 20: Good news
“Go, report to John what you hear and see. Those who were blind are able to see. Those who were crippled are walking. People with skin diseases are cleansed. Those who were deaf now hear. Those who were dead are raised up. The poor have good news proclaimed to them. Happy are those who don’t stumble and fall because of me.” - Matthew 11:4-6, Common English Bible
John is in prison wondering, "Jesus, are you really the one we've been waiting for?" While there, he gets reports of all these great things happening; of prophesies coming true: blind seeing, crippled walking, sick being healed.
Wonder how John is feeling right about now. Is he able to rejoice in the fact that Jesus is doing what was foretold, while he's suffering in prison?
In this season of merriment, how are we bringing good news to those who aren't joyful? To those who are bound by things beyond their control or grief too great to bear?
Singing "Joy to the World" or "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" may not be well received by those experiencing pain or loss this season, but perhaps you're able to bring comfort.

What might that look like?
"Good News" always has a weird vibe to me. It reminds me of the "Good News Bible" that used to be popular when I was in Sunday School. Although the Bible has good news, it has some, well, frightful events and beliefs as well. Anyway good news is relative and different for everyone. Maybe I'm not bring "merriment" and "joy" to others, but today was filled with both mainly because most of my colleagues are fun and amazing.
The "comfort" came from a middle school boy first thing this morning. Although I don't know his name, he's brought me joy all day long. As I was facing the curb that I needed to conquer with my boot in order to get into school this morning, he asked me if I needed help. It was unsolicited and kind. I was literally standing looking at the curb, the ice, the curb and thinking about what would be the best way to tackle the monster of ice and cement. Afraid that his help would land me on the ground, I declined but thanked him profusely. It was such a sweet gesture. When I think about it this evening, it still brings me joy. He say me in pain and brought comfort. Thanks unknown middle school bringer of good news.

Getting around with the boot on the ice is going to be tough.
Be careful because you don't want to be wearing 2 boots.
Happy Winter BREAK!
