For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. - Isaiah 55:8-9
It’s in our DNA to want to know. But with that quest for knowledge, have you ever asked yourself, Why? What is it I really want to know? What desire will be satisfied if I find the answer? We’re not talking about green tree frogs anymore, but about questions like, Why did you call me to this life path? Why did this situation have to happen? What is your plan for me?
We read: as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are God’s ways higher than ours ways and God’s thoughts than our thoughts, but it doesn’t prevent us from searching and asking “Why?”
Obviously, I should have saved my questioning blog for today. Who knew questioning would come under the word earthly?
I will say today I questioned the behavior of a student in my first class. He does little or no work for others yet tends to do work for me. Although I don't really understand it, it's kind of a nice way to start the day. Today I was ready for him to be difficult because I was not going to let him do the newscast with a partner. Instead I was going to make him finish his outline and essay. This, in fact was my plan for any student who did not have any points for his/her outline. When I told him what he would be doing for the next four days, he did not argue. He did not sit at the back of the class and refuse to work. He did not question me. He did not cause ANY difficulties for me. He actually sat in the back, finished his outline, and started his essay. If anyone had entered my room, they would have been shocked. It feels good to question a student's positive behavior, and tomorrow's Friday.
Is this what the Rethink Church people had in mind for today's picture? Probably not. I did give it some thought this morning. First, they are speaking of the difference between heaven and Earth. I have a difficult time with heaven as a place (you know, Pearly Gates). For some reason, I've come to believe that Jesus was speaking of heaven ("...in my Father's house there are many rooms..." John 14:2) on Earth not some mystical place that I will go when I die. Although I do believe that I am surrounded by the love of God, I don't believe that there is some plan (script) for my life. My choices help my life's path. Shit happens. Living my life in a manner that reflects the love of God (be kind to people, love my neighbor...) is the best way to live. When I mess up, I ask for forgiveness and try to be a better person next time. I can't imagine that the "Lord" wants anything more of me. After all that's why there's that part about "my ways are higher than your ways."
