“This being human is a guest house.
Every morning is a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
Some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all.
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.”
~Rumi
This morning I awake feeling completely relaxed as I listen to the sound of birds. Some of the sounds are unfamiliar. I am a guest in a wonderful house. As others are stirring inside, I sit on the porch. My intent was to read, but I have found myself spending too much time on the computer and watching the horses in the adjacent field. While reading another's blogs, I found this quote by Rumi. I don't know what will become a guest in my inner being today, but I hope the peacefulness and content I feel now remain throughout the day as I travel back to Minneapolis. Stopping in Port Wing was the perfect way to end this mini-vacation, and I am grateful to those that were willing to let me be a guest.
