A Sestina on Some Lines by Yogi Berra  by Jesse Weiner

the future ain't what it used to be,
it seems like the past coming back again,
like an open book, a dime store novel, a new mistake.
the Dodgers are leaving Brooklyn, O'Malley said,
and it looks as though I'll relive that day over
and over, like a looped film I can't stop watching.

you can observe a lot by watching
Dodger fans and Yankee fans, the series would be
a way for a man to show his character over
beer and baseball on black and white tv. the Yankees
win again,
wait until next year, the Dodger fans said.
rooting for Brooklyn seemed a tragic mistake.

I don't want to make the wrong mistake.
it's all a matter of knowing who's watching,
remembering everything that's ever been said,
the Dodgers are gone, we won't be
the same in this city again.
but still, those days refuse to be over.

it ain't over til it's over.
maybe it was all a mistake
and the Dodgers will come back to Brooklyn again,
time will reverse, and we would be watching
ourselves rush backwards to the moment we came to be,
undo our pasts, take back the words we said.

I didn't really say everything I said.
it sounds so different when I say it over.
better to leave it be,
the past works to spotlight the mistake
on a stage with everyone watching.
attendance for this one is falling again.

it's deja vu all over again.
like echoes, I hear those words I said,
floating like shadows and here I am, watching.
the Brooklyn Dodgers, like a page turned over,
are leaving for California, but whose mistake
is it supposed to be?

it's all a game I keep watching, even though it's over.
you're hearing what I said, is it a mistake
to be listening again? what else could it be?

Today in church we continued our Lenten theme of brokenness.  To begin the service we watched an incredible video of the song  All My Favorite People (watch it).  The service continued as we talked about the symbol of the cross and how some people are troubled by it.  While some people embrace the cross, others are disappointed in the way many use (misuse) its message.  Without going into the philosophical discussion, I will say it's the difference between Christians that care about people (the poor, the meek, our environment, our world, etc.) and the "Right Wing" Christians... just saying.  We discussed what the cross means to us.  When we come the the crossroads, what decisions do we make?  At that point in the service I knew I had today's team for my blog.  We were given a quote by Yogi Berra, who played almost nineteen years with the Yankees, "When you come to the fork in the road, take it."  Not only did Berra play for the Yankees, he was also the manager of the Yankees.  Although it may not seem like a Christian belief, I hate dislike the Yankees.  Does it matter?  Thanks to the Berra and the Yankees, my Sunday post about the cross and crossroads, has a baseball theme.

Today I give thanks for...
1) one more day to relax
2) tonight's NCAA selection show... Go Clones!
3) my church community... Did you watch the video?

Sankalpa Day 5

Today I went back to the interweb to find out what I could post about that would relate to sankalpa .  "...Sankalpa has the potential to release tremendous power by clearly defining and focusing on a chosen goal."  My chosen goal since May has truly been on being physically active.  Since it's cold and miserable out, I've been being active inside instead of outside.  December 6th (or something like that) was the last time I ventured outside for physical activity.  I, however, have still been going to they gym and focusing on being physically fit (or at least burning enough calories to eat more food).  Yesterday I received an early morning text from a friend in God's Country .  President Obama was talking about "The President's Challenge" .  Today (I tried yesterday and decided to put it off until today... forget out it... let it happen... put it aside... clear my mind of it... all probably sankalpa) I formed a group.  The...

What if... The Delivery

Molly was excited to get a package from her friend who lives in Alaska.  When she opened the box, she was confused.  Although the shirt was actually soft and of good quality, she was upset by the guns in the flag.  When she googled Holster's, it was exactly what she thought... pro-gun.  She didn't know how to handle the situation, so she sent a picture stating she was confused. Her friend had obviously lost her mind.  During the conversation, she kept proclaiming that she hadn't sent a t-shirt.  When Molly explained it was her writing on the box, things became weird.  The friend was in a state of denial.  Molly even sent a text with a picture of the writing on the box. Molly's friend was adamant that she sent homemade condiments.  She wouldn't give up on her story even though it was clear Molly is in possession of an NRA type t-shirt.  After much deliberation, the two friends realized what had happened.  The original box, wit...

Missing You

Two Sundays ago I missed church because I was out of town. Last Sunday I missed church because I could not get to church due to the marathon (blocking my path... not my running). Dad and I tried to leave early, but we did not leave early enough. I joked with Dad about the fact that they would miss me at church. When I checked my e-mail this evening, I actually had an e-mail from my pastor saying I was missed. It was a short e-mail, but it was sweet and definitely a positive part of my day.
