Miami Marlins

The Crowd at the Game
by William Carlos Williams
The crowd at the ball game
is moved uniformly
by a spirit of uselessness
which delights them —
all the exciting detail
of the chase
and the escape, the error
the flash of genius —
all to no end save beauty
the eternal -
So in detail they, the crowd,
are beautiful
for this
to be warned against
saluted and defied —
It is alive, venomous
it smiles grimly
its words cut —
The flashy female with her
mother, gets it —
The Jew gets it straight - it
is deadly, terrifying —
It is the Inquisition, the
Revolution
It is beauty itself
that lives
day by day in them
idly —
This is
the power of their faces
It is summer, it is the solstice
the crowd is
cheering, the crowd is laughing
in detail
permanently, seriously
without thought

Soooooo.  A new blogging challenge starts today.  According to Pronto Pup, "Here's how it works.  Starting on Monday, March 7, 2012 Monday, March 5, 2012, we will be blogging a Month of Baseball! (Don't worry, it's not really about sports).  It's Spring Training - and we're coming up on the 2012 baseball season.  There are 30 Major League Baseball teams - 29 in the US and one in Canada.  Between March 7, 2012 March 5, 2012 and April 4, 2012 (opening day) blog about as many MLB teams as you can. "

I am starting out the blog challenge with a baseball poem and one of the more attractive logos in MLB.  The Miami Marlins are also MM, so I think it's a fitting initial blog challenge post.  Actually I thought they were the Florida Marlins, but what do I know about baseball?  It seems I know as little about baseball as I do teaching without a Smartboard.  Today I made a Notebook file to use in the computer lab knowing it would be shown on a wall instead of a whiteboard or Smartboard.  When I was trying to explain the paragraph assignment that evaluated their website, I realized how much I count on the Smartboard.  To solve my problem, I took a piece of paper, tore it into thirds, wrote the three main ideas on the paper, taped them on the wall next to my example from the Notebook file, and told the students it was the Smartwall.  Although they really were not humored, I was proud of my creativity.  Maybe tomorrow I will learn more about baseball and using a Smartwall.

Hey Pronto, did I "hit it out of the park"?

Today I am thankful for...
1) daylight going to and returning from work
2) using my Webinar time productive by riding the bike, listening and playing Scrabble and Scramble with Friends
3) a night to relax and read

Aw, William! I kinda thought they were the Florida Marlins, too-- has it been so long since I was familiar with all the teams? Hopefully this challenge will get us back in the game.

I wish I had used a smart board when I was teaching. Because I don't know anything about it and it's bumming me out.

Nice of Pronto Pup to keep me out of this blogging challenge ... I'll keep my bitterness to myself.

The Florida Marlins changed their name to the Miami Marlins over the winter. They got a brand new stadium in Miami and as a way to usher in the new they changed their uniforms and logo and name. I think there was something in there about awarding Miami with the name as well since that city had a huge part of building the stadium.

Another thing about Miami: The team went on a spending spree this winter and bought all these really good players to hopefully have a good team in the first year of their new stadium.

Look at their new uniforms ... I personally hate them. But maybe someone with fashion sense likes them. I also dislike the logo, so that's why I'm suggesting it.

You are right this is their first season as the Miami Marlins. I'll be interested to see how they do with all the new money being poured into the team and facilities during the off season.

Sankalpa Day 5

Today I went back to the interweb to find out what I could post about that would relate to sankalpa .  "...Sankalpa has the potential to release tremendous power by clearly defining and focusing on a chosen goal."  My chosen goal since May has truly been on being physically active.  Since it's cold and miserable out, I've been being active inside instead of outside.  December 6th (or something like that) was the last time I ventured outside for physical activity.  I, however, have still been going to they gym and focusing on being physically fit (or at least burning enough calories to eat more food).  Yesterday I received an early morning text from a friend in God's Country .  President Obama was talking about "The President's Challenge" .  Today (I tried yesterday and decided to put it off until today... forget out it... let it happen... put it aside... clear my mind of it... all probably sankalpa) I formed a group.  The...

What if... The Delivery

Molly was excited to get a package from her friend who lives in Alaska.  When she opened the box, she was confused.  Although the shirt was actually soft and of good quality, she was upset by the guns in the flag.  When she googled Holster's, it was exactly what she thought... pro-gun.  She didn't know how to handle the situation, so she sent a picture stating she was confused. Her friend had obviously lost her mind.  During the conversation, she kept proclaiming that she hadn't sent a t-shirt.  When Molly explained it was her writing on the box, things became weird.  The friend was in a state of denial.  Molly even sent a text with a picture of the writing on the box. Molly's friend was adamant that she sent homemade condiments.  She wouldn't give up on her story even though it was clear Molly is in possession of an NRA type t-shirt.  After much deliberation, the two friends realized what had happened.  The original box, wit...

Missing You

Two Sundays ago I missed church because I was out of town. Last Sunday I missed church because I could not get to church due to the marathon (blocking my path... not my running). Dad and I tried to leave early, but we did not leave early enough. I joked with Dad about the fact that they would miss me at church. When I checked my e-mail this evening, I actually had an e-mail from my pastor saying I was missed. It was a short e-mail, but it was sweet and definitely a positive part of my day.
