Upon Request


In a post a couple of days ago, I discussed a morning meeting tagged, more to come later. The meeting was with our media specialist, one of the greatest people I know. Upon request our principal gave two of our reading advisories (30 seventh graders with low reading scores/ability) enough money to purchase 30 copies of The Hunger Games. The students were super excited when the read the reviews and viewed the waiting lists at the public libraries. My meeting the other morning was to see if we could indeed download enough copies to the collection of 30 iTouches. The truth is that we were given enough money to purchase hard copies and electronic copies of The Hunger Games.

Today the students were able to compare the book version to the electronic version. They spent the forty minutes playing with the Touches figuring out the intricacies of reading the book electronically. It was fun and exciting. At the end some where even disappointed that they couldn't take either version home until the next meeting... not bad for reluctant readers!

I would also add that it's a breakthrough because the principal is also reading The Hunger Games and students are commenting about the book as he's walking through the halls with it.

What if... The Delivery

  Molly was excited to get a package from her friend who lives in Alaska.  When she opened the box, she was confused.  Although the shirt was actually soft and of good quality, she was upset by the guns in the flag.  When she googled Holster's, it was exactly what she thought... pro-gun.  She didn't know how to handle the situation, so she sent a picture stating she was confused. Her friend had obviously lost her mind.  During the conversation, she kept proclaiming that she hadn't sent a t-shirt.  When Molly explained it was her writing on the box, things became weird.  The friend was in a state of denial.  Molly even sent a text with a picture of the writing on the box. Demolition

I am going to school with a thank you/apology note in hand. Yesterday I was "caught red handed" making illegal copies on the staff copier. It's not like it's the first time I've done it.
