I spent my morning waiting for the Sears' appliance repairman. Someone was supposed to be at my place between eight and noon. This time was arranged, so I could spend my afternoon in the sun. The dispatcher called around eleven to let me know that the repairman would be late. At this point I decided I could wait for him on my deck in the sun as well as on my couch in the shade. Upstairs to the deck I went to continue reading Five Smooths Stones (75% done... highly recommend). As I was soaking up the sun and becoming involved with the characters in the story, I remembered working with my dad one summer.
We had to deliver a refrigerator to a lake home. When we knocked on the back door (front doors face the lake which always confused me since everyone goes to the back door which should really be the front door), no one answered. Since we were on time and the lady knew we were coming, Dad set the refrigerator down, and we walked to the lake. Envy grabbed me as the lady was on a floatie in the lake reading a book with an iced tea in hand. She let us in and probably returned to the lake. I sooooo wanted to be her with not a care in the world except maybe getting her book wet.
I wasn't upset that the repairman was late since it's difficult to know the complexity of different jobs, and someone called to let me know. When he called to say he had arrived, I put my shorts and t-shirt on and went down to meet him. After watching the last incompetent from Sears, I decided it would be best if I went back up to the deck. Explaining my disgust with the last one, I told the guy that it might be better if I didn't watch and went back up to the deck. He seemed knowledgeable and assured me he wouldn't need to make numerous calls to a tech guy to figure it out. Remembering the last fiasco, I still chose to go back to the deck. Fifteen minutes later he called to let me know it was done. Ahhh, someone who knows what they're doing and a lovely afternoon on the deck. It could have only been better if I had been on a floatie in front of my lake home.
