Life in Zihaut is wonderful. I have no complaints. When I left I downloaded some school work to my computer. Many thought looking at student work over break was ridiculous. I figured I would rather read 100+ poems about students definition of Valley View at home or next to the ocean. Besides, since I am traveling by myself, I really don’t do a lot after it gets dark outside. Last night after cocktails with my sun friends, I read through the poems. They actually made me feel proud of my students. Tonight when I have to copy and paste them all to the website, I might feel differently. Then again how bad can it be working and listening to the waves crash against the beach in warm weather?
Hey, where are the pictures? I know. For some reason I took some pictures and video the first day, but my camera is not connecting with my computer. Instead of bringing my obnoxious camera which says tourist needing attack, I brought the one I haven't used since the Iowa caucus. Needless to say I don't have pictures to share, and I quit taking them because I think it could be a waste of time since it won't connect. The good news is Zihaut is basically the same as last time, so I still have those pictures.
April Book Connection
Animal Factory is my latest read. It was not a quick or exciting read. Honestly, if one has seen Food Inc. (highly recommended), it is not necessarily new information. True honesty, this is one of the few books in which I did a lot of skimming and did not read word for word. Was it a complete waste of time? No. The one thing that I can not shake from my mind has to do with manure spreading (who would guess I would ever have posted about manure spreading). My father spreads chicken manure on his ground instead of chemical fertilizer. Of course I always thought this was a better alternative (and basically ? still do). The book does bring up the complications of manure spreading and now I wonder from where dad gets the chicken shit (had to say it... true... chicken manure). Hopefully, it’s not one of those horrific chicken lots. It also had some interesting commentary about Edwards, Clinton, and Obama and the Iowa Caucuses. At the time Obama had the correct answers but has not necessarily made any attempt to change our food industry. To Obama’s credit, he’s had little help and some other major policy decisions. More politics today as I tackle Game Change.
